Bachelor of X-Ray Radiographer Technology
Malwa Intitute of Medicine is the Allied Health Sector College of Malwa Group Indore, Associated with SHALBY Hospital. “Radiology is one of the exciting and interesting medical courses that makes the use of imaging to distinguish and treat diseases available in the body” . A radiographer produces radiography of patients with the help of X-ray to find the exact medical condition of the patient. In addition with X-ray, a radiographer also considers CT scans, ultrasounds and MRI for producing radiography. Radiology field is broadly divided into two areas namely diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. Diagnostic Radiology is the specialization of medicine that uses the images of X-Ray and other imaging tech- niques to diagnose the disease and injury of patient. Interventional Radiology is the another medical specialty that also uses imaging techniques (X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound) for direction. Patients can be treated and diagnosed using minimally invasive procedures.
  • Radiography is a paramedical professional course, offered to individuals who will one day perform diagnostic tests in medical treatment with the use of radiation.
  • In simple terms, radiography may be described as the science of taking images of the internal and hidden portions of the human body for the purpose of diagnosing diseases and ailments. This includes the use of ultrasound, X-ray, CT scan, MRI, etc.
  • This profession calls for considerable techno- logical expertise. Radiographers work as a part of the healthcare team in the Diagnostic Imaging Department, Accident & Emergency, Intensive Care Unit and Operating Theatre. Radiographers in short, are trained to take x-rays, MRI, CT scan etc. Sometimes, radiogra- phers are also involved in giving radiotherapy treatment to cancer patients. Radiographers who can also perform the ultrasound test are known as sonographers.
  • A career in radiography can be very promising. The demand for radiographers has increased considerably in recent times, with significant technological development in medical sciences, creating new job opportunities.(Please note that radiographers are different from radiologists. Radiologists are doctors who specialize in interpreting diagnostic images like X-rays, MRI and CT scans. They can also perform interventional procedures (such as an angiogram or biopsy).
X-Ray Technician Degree and Diploma Program Information
X-Ray technicians, also known as radiologic technicians, produce x-ray images of different parts of the body. They introduce non-radioactive substances into the bloodstream of patients to aid in the diagnosis of specific conditions. For students with no prior experience working with x-rays, a 2-year associate’s Diploma program in radiogra- phy or radiologic technology provides them with the minimum amount of training required to work as entry-level x-ray technicians. Candidates can apply directly to a 4-year bachelor’s degree programs, many hospitals prefer that bachelor’s degree candidates have some professional experience as x-ray technicians. There are a few different program fields to choose from, including X-Ray Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Radiography. Students may also be required to take clinical lab training and practicum.
